I am not a fan of so-called “prayer chains” for a number of reasons. It has been the experience of many that participating in prayer chains produces a kind of heaviness. Often there is a sense of obligation rather than conversing with our Father out of real concern.

Having been sent by God to speak to Pharaoh, Moses was frustrated. He said, “Lord, why have You brought harm to this people? Why did You ever send me? Ever since I came to Pharaoh to speak in Your name, he has done harm to this people…” (Exodus 5:22b-23a, NASB 2020).

Then, and I just love this, he said…

James 4 says “You do not have because you do not ask.” and “You ask and do not receive.” So, which is it?

One important thing I have come to understand is that Father is not a genie I can get to act in specific ways if I just ask properly. Additionally, I've found that He is interested in what is best for us and others and that His view of that is far more comprehensive than mine.

My advice for those who struggle with this is to give up on worrying about praying. If necessary, take some time off and don't feel badly about it.
