The Gospel is the Good News
The Gospel is the good news. Luke 2:10–11 communicates this very well. It says, “And so the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.’”
The Gospel is the good news. 1 Corinthians 15:3–5 adds specificity to the message of the angel in Luke. It says, “For I handed down to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.”
The Gospel is the good news. John 1:9–14 speaking of the Lord Jesus Christ says, “This was the true Light that, coming into the world, enlightens every person. He was in the world, and the world came into being through Him, and yet the world did not know Him. He came to His own, and His own people did not accept Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of a man, but of God. And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us; and we saw His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
The Gospel is the good news. John 3:16–18 capsulizes it very simply. It says, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but so that the world might be saved through Him. The one who believes in Him is not judged; the one who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.”
The Gospel is the good news that everything required for us to be made acceptable to and compatible with God (righteous) has been accomplished in Jesus Christ. As we read in Ephesians 2:8 “by grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not of yourselves, it is the gift of God”.
