How to Know Father’s Voice
The enemy is a liar.
The enemy’s voice speaks of guilt, shame, and fear.
That voice brings up our past failures and ungodly attitudes and actions and uses them to assert that we are hypocrites, failures, and unworthy of the goodness of God. That voice tells us that we are not qualified to represent the Lovely Lord Jesus, that we lack what all the “good Christians” have. That we are second rate, or worse.
Sometimes the enemy is more subtle.
The voice that whispers how much better we are than “they” are. The voice that calls attention to how much and how well we do and asserts that while most do not live such godly lives, we are sterling examples and worthy of recognition and honor.
God is Love, and He is Truth.
His voice always sounds like Him.
You know,
patient,
kind,
not jealous;
not bragging,
not arrogant.
not acting disgracefully,
not seeking its own benefit,
not easily provoked,
not keeping an account of wrongs suffered,
not rejoicing in unrighteousness,
rejoicing with the truth;
keeping every confidence,
believing, hoping, and enduring all things,
(see 1 Corinthians 13:4–7)
Father’s voice sounds like what is characteristic of Him.
You know,
love,
joy,
peace,
patience,
kindness,
goodness,
faithfulness,
gentleness,
self-control
(see Galatians 5:22–23)
His voice speaks of
whatever is honorable,
whatever is right,
whatever is pure,
whatever is lovely,
whatever is commendable,
excellence
anything worthy of praise,
(see Philippians 4:8)
When trying to sort out your thoughts to see which are from Father and which are the enemy and the world, “Set your minds on the things that are above, not on the things that are on earth.”
(Colossians 3:2, NASB 2020)
