Royal Priests

“At that time the LORD singled out the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the covenant of the LORD, to stand before the LORD to serve Him and to bless in His name, until this day. Therefore, Levi does not have a portion or inheritance with his brothers; the LORD is his inheritance, just as the LORD your God spoke to him.)” (Deuteronomy 10:8–9, NASB 2020)

Deuteronomy 10:8-9 says that God set the priestly tribe of Levi apart. When something is set apart for a particular use, it is sanctified or consecrated. He set them apart to carry the Ark of the Covenant. This Ark was covered by the mercy seat where God sat to speak with the high priest once a year. It was representative of God’s throne, His presence. The Levites were also set apart to serve Him and to bless His name.

Then Father says something very interesting. “The LORD is his inheritance.” This tribe of priests have as their inheritance the Lord God Himself.

This is a shadow. The reality is found in Christ Jesus.

1 Peter 2:10 says, “for you once were not a people, but now you are the people of God; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.” (1 Peter 2:10, NASB 2020)

This shows us that the Gentile nations (that’s most of us) were not included as God’s chosen people, but now we are. It’s quoting from Hosea 2:10 in the Old Testament.

Now let’s roll back to the preceding verse, 1 Peter 2:9. There we find, “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a Holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;” (1 Peter 2:9, NASB 2020)

Revelation 5:10 says, “You have made them into a kingdom and priests to our God, and they will reign upon the earth.” (NASB 2020)

That’s you, Saint. That’s you!
You are a priest serving God and blessing His name on the earth.
Your inheritance is the Lord Jesus.
