Just Like Jesus

Just like Jesus

1 John 4:16–19 “We have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who remains in love remains in God, and God remains in him. By this, love is perfected with us, so that we may have confidence in the day of judgment; because as He is, we also are in this world. There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love. We love, because He first loved us.” (NASB 2020)

From this we can see that the Apostle is making clear that God is love, that we are in Him, and that He is in us. This union is so close that Paul can say that we are one spirit with Him.

This great love that exists between God and us is a reciprocal love that is perfected by being shared willingly by both parties. Father never forces us to love Him. That’s why we must accept His gift of righteousness and eternal life by faith.

The truth of this union, this deep willing love relationship, provides us certainty about the future. It alleviates any fear of punishment for us.

The reason for our boldness is that:
We are righteous just like Jesus. (see Ephesians 1:4, 2 Corinthians 5:21)
We are loved just like Jesus. (see John 17:23b)
We are ambassadors of truth just like Jesus. (see 2 Corinthians 5:19)
We are in this world, yet we are heirs of eternal life just like Jesus. (see John 17:13, Romans 8:17)
