Gently, Gently

Gently, Gently

I love the way the NIV renders Philippians 4:5.

It reads, "Let your gentleness be evident to all."

Isn't that a beautifully encouraging idea?

I could do that in the checkout line at the grocery store.
I could do that as someone is trying to merge into my lane in traffic.
I could do that when harsh and critical words are being spoken by others.
I could do that when my idea has been rejected.
I could do that in so many otherwise contentious situations.

Yet not I, but Christ in me.

The verse ends with a reminder, "The Lord is near."

He can do it, and I can bear the fruit of His meek and gentle Spirit.

That's the way of grace. It teaches us to live godly lives in this present world.
