Conscience and the Law

Conscience and the Law

We who are in Christ always have a conscience, but as we learn to trust Father and His grace more our mindset is renewed to His truth. I think this shifts our conscience from examining our attitudes and actions based on rules, laws, and traditions to the law of love, which is godliness.

As we come to trust that we really are holy, righteous, and blameless, we realize that He is pleased with us and that we can rely on Him in everything. Our mindset turns to Him effortlessly and we simply find that we are not thinking about sin. We are not examining everything to see if it might be sinful or not.

Titus 2:11-12 tells us that grace teaches us to live upright and godly lives and to deny ungodliness. Philippians 2:13 makes it clear that He is the one responsible for our behavior. He is working in us to have godly desires and to behave in godly ways.

Our conscience helps us in this, but the true source is the Spirit within us. He urges us, guides us, and prompts us to godly life. As we grow in grace and our knowledge of Father, we learn to hear His voice more readily and respond. So, our conscience and the Spirit are not telling us when we are following laws. Instead, they are urging us toward the law of freedom, the law of Christ. That is the law of Love.
