Romans Five Eight

Romans 5:8 (KJV) “8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

When we commend one person to another, we give our favorable view of them and present them in their best light. That God would introduce us favorably to His love is a great testament to the depth of His love. Think about it. If Jesus demonstrated His love for us by dying to pay our debt while we were still His enemies and helpless, His love for us must be great indeed.

This act of personal sacrifice is the highest form of love. It is love given at great cost to the giver with no guarantee of reciprocity by the object of that love. When someone tells us they love us, we generally reciprocate by telling them that we love them too. Father did not do that. He told us that He loves us while knowing full well that many would reject Him completely. Even when they do, His love for them continues unabated. In this way every possible chance for them to change their minds and trust Him is made available. In this way those who choose to trust Him do so from a pure motive and without coercion. In this way His love for us and our love for Him are shown to be real.
