Emotions Come From Thoughts

Emotions Come from Thoughts

Feelings are emotions.
Emotions follow thoughts.

Your feelings reflect what you're thinking about. If you're thinking you are unloved, then you'll be feeling unloved. That does not mean that you are not loved. It just means that you feel unloved. If you are thinking about how you took your anger out on your boss, coworker, parent, spouse, or child, you’ll be feeling regretful, guilty, and sinful. That does not mean that you are dirty and sinful. It just means you are feeling that way.

Therefore, scripture says we should set our minds on things above. We benefit from meeting, talking, and sharing life with other believers. Being engaged with others in talking about the Lord and His love, helps us keep our thoughts on Him and His love. That’s why Hebrews tells us we should not stop gathering with others. We can meet in person, interact online, read books, including the Bible, or listen to teaching. These things help us to hear and focus on what is right, good and lovely.

Colossians 3:1–3 (NASB 2020)

1 Therefore, if you have been raised with Christ, keep seeking the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
2 Set your minds on the things that are above, not on the things that are on earth.
3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

Philippians 4:8 (NASB 2020) “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”

Romans 12:2 (NASB 2020) “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.”
