Why Behave in Godly Ways?

Why we Should Behave in Godly Ways

We are called to godly behavior.

Titus 2:11-12 tells us that grace teaches us to deny ungodliness and live godly lives in the world.

Ephesians 2:10 says that we are Father's workmanship created for the good works He prepared should characterize our lives.

The motivation that drives us toward godly behavior is not becoming more acceptable to God. Rather, our motivation stems from the fact that we already are acceptable to God.

We behave well because we are godly.

While it's true that Father is not counting our sins against us and "all things are permissible", not everything builds up and not everything manifests Jesus to those around us.

The idea that we have a "responsibility" to act in godly ways grates on some people who have had works based righteousness shoved down their throats, however. But think about it; do you want to go around living a fleshly life characterized by sin, or do you want to behave in godly ways characterized by love?

Perhaps it's not so much responsibility as heartfelt desire. He works in us to desire to do godly things. (See Philippians 2:13)
