You are Free Because of Jesus

You are Free Because of Jesus

Jesus did some pretty awesome stuff. Colossians 2:9-19 has some amazing, and truly profound things to say that shed a little light on this.

Colossians 2:9–15 (NASB95)
9 For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form,
10 and in Him you have been made complete, and He is the head over all rule and authority;
11 and in Him you were also circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, in the removal of the body of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ;
12 having been buried with Him in baptism, in which you were also raised up with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead.
13 When you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions,
14 having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.
15 When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him.

For a start, we read in verse nine that all the fullness of the Godhead dwells bodily in Jesus Christ. Jesus is God. That is why if you have seen Him, you have seen God. (see John 14:7 & 9) If you know Him, you know God. Jesus is human too. That is why He understands at an experiential level all that you face, and all you are going through. (see Hebrews 4:15)

Next, verse ten tells us “you are complete in Him.” That is why the Apostles could write things like, "you have been given everything you need for life and godliness." (see 2 Peter 1:3) Verse ten goes on to say that “He is the head of all principalities and powers.” There is nothing above Him. He is the ultimate authority, and the ultimate power. (see Ephesians 1:21 & Philippians 2:9)

Verse eleven says that Jesus circumcised you at the level of your spirit. You are set apart, sanctified. Circumcision signifies that there is a covenant between you and God. (see Genesis 17:11 and surrounding verses) Verse eleven (NASB) says it like this: “removal of the body of the [sins of the (KJV)] flesh.” Interestingly, the Greek behind this says that it is removal of the soma of the sarx. The physicality (soma) of the worldly way of navigating life (sarx). This sanctification, this circumcision of the heart, removed your old stony heart, your sinful nature, and replaced it with a glorious and godly nature. That is why you really do not want to sin anymore. It is why you are inexplicably drawn to doing the right thing.

Verse twelve goes on to say that Jesus took you with Him when He was buried. Even more amazing, He resurrected you from the dead along with Himself. And then verse thirteen caps that by saying that Jesus has forgiven you all trespasses. ALL.

Jesus has blotted out the handwriting of laws and rules that condemned you. (verse fourteen) He nailed all those to the cross as He bore the sins of every person who has ever lived or will ever live.

Even more than that, He spoiled the enemy and his minions and made a spectacle of them. That is why that old accuser is all bark and no bite and why truth is his kryptonite where you are concerned, child of the Most High.

That is the way of grace. He does it all and gives you the benefits as a gift.
